ABOUT VIRGINIA HELICOPTER ASSOCIATION

The VHA was formed in late 2005 by a group of helicopter pilots that basically flew or operated from then Hampton Roads Charter Service, that would later become Hampton Roads Helicopters (HRH).

The first VHA General Membership meeting was held at Hampton Roads Executive Airport (PVG) on 11 June 2006. Two of the original charter members were Andy Gibbs of HRH, and Bob Reid who became VHA's first president, were presenters at that first meeting.

The first VHA public presentation was made at PVG and held in the HRH hangar on 12 April 2008 at 1800 hours. The speaker was CWO David S. Williams, relating to the downing of an AH-64 Apache Helicopter in Iraq, and the two pilots being held captive. They were subsequently rescued by US Marines on 13 April 2003.

The second VHA public presentation was made in a HeloAir Hangar at Richmond Intl. Airport on 21 March 2009. The two speakers were Scott Kasprowicz and Steve Sheik, relating “The Grand Flight”, an around the world helicopter flight, starting on 7 August 2008, and ending eleven days later. This was a world record breaking endurance flight at that time.

The VHA is established as a 501C3 Non-Profit Organization (.org)
